Last Tuesday Josh and I took the kids to the Maumee Bay State Park for a dinner picnic. Of course, by the time we got to the beach with our sandwiches, it began to rain and storm. We made the best of it by riding out the storm in a picnic shelter on the beach by the lake. It was a little windy and cool, but very relaxing to hear the thunder and watch the rain hit the lake. I love the water falling on water sound. Here is a picture of Caleb clowning around while waiting for the "boom-booms" to pass.
After the storm cleared, we walked down the beach. Caleb took the opportunity to chase some seagulls that had congregated on the sand. He yelled "mine, mine, mine" as he ran. For those of you out of the Disney loop, the seagulls in Finding Nemo make a gull noise while saying "mine".
We walked in front of the hotel, which is so pretty. We are definitely going to plan a weekend there next summer. We let Caleb burn off some energy at the playground near the edge of the wooded boardwalk. At that point, the weather was picking up again and I loved to hear the wind rustle the leaves of the swamp trees. The quiet of the place reminded me of my childhood home.
We had to hurry our stroll back to the van as another storm system seemed to be heading our way. Josh got some great pictures of the sky though. He's so good with our little point and click camera.
On the way back, Caleb and Josh liked to walk up and down the steps near the lake edge in front of the hotel, although I admit I was a nervous wreck that Caleb would slip into the rocky waters. After all, they were warned!
A final stop for the camera before packing the family up and going home.
